H.E. Mr. Chen Shanmin, Consul General of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Karachi made a successful visit to Quetta, provincial capital of Balochistan from September 5 to 7. The Commercial Counselor, Mr. Wang Qihui and representatives from some of the Chinese mega companies as MCC (China Metallurgical Group Corporation), China Mobile and Sino-Steel also joint the visit. The Balochistan government attached highly importance to this visit and warmly welcomed the Chinese delegation.

Mr. Chen Shanmin paid courtesy calls to the governor, chief secretary and officials of home department, provincial police and Frontier Constabulary. At the meeting with the Balochistan Governor H.E. Mr. Owais Ahmad Ghani, Chen highly appreciated the brotherly relations between China and Pakistan and expressed sincere thanks to the Balochistan government and the people who had done great efforts and sacrifices in protecting Chinese nationals and engineers working in Balochistan. He also condoled with Balochistan people on the huge damages caused by cyclone which hit Balochistan last month. He said that the Chinese government will continue to cooperate with Balochistan government and make contribution to improvement of local economy and living standard. The Governor said that China has played a key role in the economic development of Pakistan. Referring to Gwadar Port, Saindak Copper project and Zinc project in Duddar, the governor considered these projects have been implementation in collaboration with China. These are of vital importance in the development of Balochistan. Mr. Ghani also pledged that Balochistan government will do its best to safeguard the Chinese nationals.

H.E. Mr. Chen Shanmin also held a meeting together with Home Secretary of the home department, Balochistan. They set up Joint Task Force between Chinese Consulate and Balochistan government. The two parts have exchanged views on how to safeguard Chinese nationals who doing business in Balochistan.

The Consulate General of China co-hosted the "Roundtable, China-Pakistan Economic Relations with Reference to the Province of Balochistan, Quetta" on September 6th with the Balochistan Economic Forum. Mr. Mir Jan Muhammad Jamali, Deputy Chairman of Senate, and over sixty local VIPs included governmental officials, MPAs, former ministers, entrepreneurs and tribal sardars presented the seminar. Chen made a speech at the seminar to introduce the recent development of China's economy. He said "China attaches importance to the relation of China-Pakistan and also concerns the safe of Chinese nationals. The relation between China and Pakistan is mutual complementarily, mutual benefit". The Commercial Counselor introduced the economic policy of Chinese government and suggestions to the business activities in Pakistan especially in Balochistan. Representatives of Chinese mega companies also gave an introduction about their business and activities in Pakistan.
