Remarks by Consul General Ma Yaou at the Reception Marking the 65th Anniversary of the Founding of the People's Republic of China
2014-10-01

H.E. Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Chief Minister Sindh,

Honorable Ministers and Consuls General,

Distinguished guests, Dear Compatriots,

Ladies and Gentlemen:

Asalam Alaikum!

We are gathering here tonight to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. On behalf of the Chinese consulate in Karachi and myself, I wish to extend the warmest welcome to all of you for your presence here and we are especially grateful to H.E. Chief Minister for joining us at this auspicious occasion.

China has made tremendous achievements since its founding 65 years ago. The Picture Exhibition, "Beautiful China" held here, vividly depicts the present China, the developing China. Today China's GDP reached 9.4 Trillion USD in 2013. And in the first half of 2014, the economy grows at 7.4%. Currently, China enjoys social stability and steady economic growth. We are making great efforts to realize scientific and sustainable development through comprehensively deepening reform and adjusting the economic structure. We are confident and capable of overcoming all difficulties and challenges on the way, and realizing the great "Chinese dream", that is to accomplish the national prosperity and renewal, as well as people's welfare and happiness.

China is firmly pursuing the path of peaceful development. China's development means great opportunity for the world. China will adhere to the idea of "amity, sincerity, mutual benefit and inclusiveness" while we positively promote relations with neighboring countries. China and Pakistan are good friends, close neighbours, trusted partners and dear brothers. Developing the China-Pakistan relationship is always our diplomatic priority. China-Pakistan friendship rises above the current change of international situation, withstands the test of time and sets a good example of state to state relations. Now both countries are committed to developing the economies to make their countries strong and their people prosper. We believe that the hard working and talented Pakistani people, through hard efforts, can realize the Asian Tiger Dream by building a strong and prosperous Pakistan. Recently Northern Pakistan was hit by a devastating flood which caused huge casualties and property loss. The Chinese people feel as much pain as our Pakistani brothers, and the Chinese government has decided to provide further assistance for the flood relief work. We believe that the united Pakistani people can overcome all the difficulties and rebuild their homes soon.

Ladies and Gentleman,

China-Pakistan friendship is deeply rooted in the hearts of both peoples. The building of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor brings new opportunities for deepening our friendly cooperation and strong momentum for strengthening bilateral relations.

In recent years, plenty of fruitful results have been achieved in the economic and trade sectors between China and provinces of Sindh and Balochistan. More and more Chinese investors come here to undertake pragmatic cooperation with Pakistani side in fields like energy, transportation, power, and infrastructure, bringing great benefits to the local people. More and more Pakistani friends from Sindh and Balochistan go to China for business and make fortune. Bilateral cultural exchange is spirited with frequent personal exchanges and increasing good sentiments towards each other from both sides. The Confucius Institute in Karachi University officially opened Chinese Language classes at the beginning of this year, which received a warm response from local friends and provided an important new platform for both peoples to understand and come closer to each other.

I hope everyone present here will continue to care about and support the development of China-Pakistan friendship. The Chinese Consulate General in Karachi would like to work together with Pakistani friends from all walks of life, with constant efforts, to push forward the friendly cooperation between China and the provinces of Sindh and Balochistan to further benefit both peoples!

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Let's join hands together and make concerted efforts, to forge the shared destiny of China and Pakistan, to open a new chapter of this all weather friendship and all round cooperation between China and Pakistan!

May both China and Pakistan be prosperous and their peoples happy!

China-Pakistan dosti Zindabad!

Thank you!
